Africa Christian Teaching Service

About Us

We endeavour to offer the very best opportunities to some of the very poorest children and young people in the world today.  ACTS is making a huge difference to the young lives we engage with. This is thanks to your generosity, the work of our trustees, those we employ in our schools and those who give freely of their time.

Who Are We?

Africa Christian Teaching Service was founded in 1989 to address the issues of dire poverty in Central East Africa, which arose through civil war and genocide. Set up by Trust Deed and initially supported by four benefactors we have achieved much over the years of our work in the continent. Today we support many children in their educational, spiritual and physical needs by direct sponsorship. We also financially support the building and work of the Neema Mission School in Uganda. In Burundi we own and run the Herridge Technical School, which was opened in September 2007 to offer secondary education (not funded by the state) to children from the IDP camp (Internally Displaced Peoples) and the local community of Karusi.

The changing environment of education in the countries of Central East Africa has required us to develop our curriculum to cover further education, adding a Life Skills Centre with an IT suite; catering kitchens, restaurant and bakery.

It is our hope to continue to help these young people achieve their full potential and therefore improve their future life prospects so that they might in turn be able to help their neighbours in need.

Our Mission Aims

As a charitable organisation with a Christian ethos our aim is to bring education to the poor, destitute, orphaned, oppressed and impoverished, through the grace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our mission field is set in the Great Lakes area of Central East Africa which is home to some of the poorest people in the world.

We believe that through the gift of education families can be assisted to grow and develop into strong, committed, self-supporting social groups that add real value to their communities helping them to become cohesive, well governed, self-sufficient, independent and free of aid.

We aspire through faith in Christ Jesus and the work of His hand to help all people attain their full potential both physically and spiritually.
